Running at Matthews State Forest–Paula’s Testimonial

“Trail Running at Matthews State Forest” Paula Doughtie’s Testimonial When I decided to start exercising again I never thought I’d be running as the thought of jogging, (especially on a treadmill) seemed so unappealing and foreign to me. I had loved running as a kid, but that was usually sprinting outdoors. I started exercising with Teresa Roberts of Masterpiece Fitness as my trainer, because she very firmly believes exercise should be fun and challenging, and she loves to exercise outdoors no matter the season. Teresa convinced me to try running, so we started on the New River Trail. Teresa’s belief in her clients and amazing energy, knowledge, and positivity combined with the beauty of the trail won me over! Teresa suggested we try trail running next. The first time she took me to Matthews State Forest to run on the trails, it was like being transported back to my childhood. It was such fun to run through the forest on the trails… the ups and downs, the rocks, and roots and fresh air. I couldn’t believe how much fun and physically challenging it was to run on the narrow trails! I love the feeling of running over these trails like a roller coaster up, down, and up again. When I run on the road or a treadmill the time drags by, and it is difficult for me to run...

It has been such a pleasure to team up with Matthews State Forest and the mountain biking community who are responsible for the trails. I feel this event deserves more attention than I am able to give it, and am thrilled with a group of folks who are enthusiastic outdoor athletes who value all it has to offer for our trail runners! “For this finds favor …”

1 Peter 2:19-20 "For this finds favor, if for the sake of conscience toward God a person bears up under sorrows when suffering unjustly. For what credit is there if when you sin and are harshly treated, you endure it with patience" But if when you do what is right and suffer for it and patiently endure it, this finds favor with God." If you live long enough in this world you will suffer unjustly. Much of the suffering in my own life has been the result of others choices rather than my own. These verses in Peter are such and encouragement when we find ourselves and those we love the victims of someone else’s choosing. For conscience sake toward God we must choose to follow Jesus’s example, because of our love for Him, and knowing this finds favor with Him. We must bear up when suffering unjustly in our sorrows and follow in His steps entrusting our selves to the One who judges righteously. Mercy triumphs over judgement as I remember all I have been forgiven for. I have learned the love of God and the blood of Jesus will cover any and all sin. Perhaps you are the one who has made terrible mistakes that have affected many others. Know no atrocities are greater than the great love of our God and Savior. You not only can...

“O satisfy us in the morning…”

Psalm 90:14 "O satisfy us in the morning with Your loving kindness, that we may sing for joy and be glad all our days." When I came to know my Savior in a deep, personal way, I began the habit of being satisfied in the morning with His loving kindness. Beginning your day and allowing Him first place in your life will definitely alter the course of your life. Does this mean a life of guaranteed smooth sailing daily? Hardly! My life has been anything but that. What it does mean is I have never faced the storms of life alone. When I have hit the storms of life, and this ship has been tossed about with fear, I have had a Captain who would speak to me and bring supernatural peace and strength to enable me to find my way out of the storms. When battered and bruised internally and externally He has healed my wounds and broken heart. I have come to know whatever I encounter He will make me victorious, because I always triumph through Christ as promised in His Word. (2 Corinthians 214) Acquiring perfect circumstances in life is not how we triumph. If we believe that we end up helplessly tossed to and fro with no peace in sight. I triumph because my anchor of hope and all my trust is in the unfailing...

“…He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.”

Hebrews 11:6 "Without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him." Faith is the key element to pleasing God. He wants us to believe in Him. We must believe Hie is. He is everything we need. He embodies the fullness of life. Only those who diligently seek Him ever experience the depth of His love. He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him! The rewards are beyond the comprehension of this world. One of the rewards is He speaks to those who seek Him! From Genesis to Revelation He is speaking to His creation. He is our Heavenly Father. What father would choose not to speak to his son? What a preposterous thought! Throughout scripture you read, "He that has an ear let him hear what the Spirit is saying." In John 10 we are assured by Jesus His sheep hear His voice. You need to read the entire chapter. Read it! "But because you are not My sheep, you refuse to believe. My sheep listen to My voice; I know them, and they follow Me. I give them eternal life and they will never perish." John 10:26-28 This is the reward of those who believe and follow Christ. I ask you what could you possibly...
