And He said to them, "Come with Me to a quiet place and get some rest." Mark 6:31

Jesus was constantly looking after the needs of others. He and His disciples had been ministering to the multitudes, and they had joined back together, and the apostles reported to Jesus all they had done and taught. We know there were at least 5,000 people at this gathering. Scripture tells us many people were coming and going and they had no time even to eat.

After ministering to the crowds Jesus now turns His attention on His disciples and extends this beautiful invitation from the Son of God:

"Come with Me to a quiet place and get some rest."

As I read those familiar words this week I obeyed. It isn’t hard to find a quiet place when you live alone. A huge advantage is there are less distractions. However, it still requires discipline to stay aware of His Presence. He said, "Come with Me." We must realize just getting alone is not going to give us the rest He is offering. Refreshment physically and spiritually comes from His Presence alone. We must become more aware of Him than we are ourselves. We must get outside of our heads and into His. If we truly wait upon Him, and drink from the well of living water, we will be strengthened and renewed and find rest for our souls.

Jesus and the disciples had gotten in a boat together but the crowds ran ahead and were there waiting when Jesus went ashore. Scripture tells us in 6:34:

When Jesus went ashore, He saw a large crowd and He felt compassion for them because they were like sheep without a shepherd and He began to teach them many things."

We see throughout scripture He cared for the masses, the few, and individuals. He desires to meet your needs today and everyday if you will accept an ongoing invitation He offers to all mankind.
There is no need to be a sheep without a Shepherd. Jesus is the only true Shepherd. He promises to lead you in paths of righteousness and beside still waters. In His Presence we will lie down to rest in green pastures. Are you hearing His voice this morning calling you by name to come alone with Him to a quiet place to get some rest? Simply obey!

In His love.
