" Let your statement be Yes, yes or No, no; anything beyond these is for evil."
Matthew 5:37

There is nothing I value more in life than a man or woman of their word. When they say they will do something – they do it. When you agree on a time to meet, they are punctual. You can depend on their honesty and integrity. These are values that use to be esteemed by our society, but are definitely a thing of the past. The result is chaos. You cannot efficiently run a business, church, family, or a country without men and women who keep their word. Look around you.

Jesus, in Matthew 5:33-37 is warning against making oaths and vows, but to let their yes be yes, and their no be no. In other word say what you mean, and mean what you say. If you claim to belong to Christ this is a fundamental truth we should be walking in obedience to! Not keeping your word wreaks havoc in all relations around you.

Satan is the father of lies, and It began in the garden of Eden.Yet, when we do not do what we say, we have lied . As our society has continued to deteriorate lying has become more common in everyday life than walking in the truth.

We as disciples of Christ have a responsibility to represent the character of Christ. His Word is always true and dependable. In fact we read it is impossible for God to lie in Hebrews 6:18. In Numbers 23:19 we read:

"God is not a man, that He should lie, nor a son of man that He should repent; has He said and will not do it? Or has He spoke and will He not make it good?"

Let us as His people realize how far we are from the character of Christ when we do not keep our word, and fulfill commitments we make. May we realize we become more like the children of the father of lies which is satan. Let us cry out to our Lord to make us people of our word as He is, because without honesty we cannot have any true relationships in our lives.
In His love.
