"Like a city that is broken into and without walls is a man or woman who has no control over his or her spirit." Proverbs 25:28
A person whose life is controlled by the Holy Spirit will produce the fruit of self control in their lives. (Galatians 5:22) When we come under the control of other people, feelings and emotions, selfish ambitions and empty conceit, nicotine, caffeine, alcohol, gluttony, etc. it robs us of the abundant life we were intended by Jesus Himself.
"The thief comes only to steal, kill, and destroy; I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly." (John 10:10)
A city broken into and without walls is totally unprotected. Anything or anyone can come in, and anything can go out. We become that city when we lack self control in our lives. It leaves us without the protection of the Holy Spirit’s guidance and wisdom. As a result we enter into relationships we were never intended to have. We become addicts of our own lust that dictates our lives leaving a path of destruction and devastation behind us.
Let us give serious thought to what or who truly controls our daily decisions. When we enter into prayer who is in control of that time? Are we trying to manipulate and control God with our request, or are we allowing the Holy Spirit to be in control of our prayer life?" Let us meditate on our verse this morning. May we receive the full revelation of a life without walls of protection. Let us surrender our hearts and minds totally to the Holy Spirit allowing Him to manifest the self control we all desperately need in our lives. Remember only the truth sets us free from chains we cannot see without the truth of God’s word.
