My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.
How do we know if we are a true follower of Christ? Why don’t we let Christ Himself answer that question. As we read John 10 multiple times Jesus defines the true followers of Christ: My sheep know My voice – I know them – They follow me. If you cannot honestly say this describes your relationship with the true Shepherd of the church you have reason for deep concern, and reason to see truth from God’s Word.
There are so many voices today speaking in Jesus’ name only. They aren’t speaking His Words, but are using His name for all they say and do. If you are hearing any man’s voice more than the voice of the true Shepherd you can be deceived and led astray. Satan’s goal is to keep you from knowing the truth. He is the father of lies. There is no way to know Jesus without learning to hear His voice, anymore than you can be in relationship with someone without knowing their voice. There must be some form of communication before we can know anyone.
Notice we first must hear His voice and then He says I know them and they know Me. Do you know God? Do you know His character? You must be in communication with Him. It happens during prayer. Prayer is simply talking and listening to an awareness of His Presence in your life. It is based on faith. Faith comes from hearing His Words through reading the Bible. (Romans 10:17) In prayer we receive revelation through the Holy Spirit. Then Jesus said My sheep follow me. We go His way. We turn away from our own paths to follow His which leads to life abundantly!
John 10:16 tells us how we become one of His sheep: They will hear His voice – They will become one flock – With one Shepherd. This is the true Church of Jesus Christ.
Whose flock do you belong to this morning? Whose voice do you listen to most? Who are you following? Whose path are you on? Can we honestly say Jesus is the answer to all those questions? He is the Only way to the Father. (John 14:6) We all must come by the way of the cross. Let’s lay down our phones, turn off computers, TV, I-pads, etc., and listen to the One voice that truly has all the answers. He alone is God our Creator. Whose voice is greater than His?
“Be still, and know that I AM GOD.” (Psalm 46:10)
In His love.
