Peace I leave with you; My peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid." John 14:27

These comforting words were spoken to Jesus’ disciples just before the crucifixion and resurrection. He was getting ready to leave this world and them. However, He promised He would not leave us as orphans, but would ask the Father, and He would send us another helper, the Holy Spirit, and He will be with us forever. In John 14:17 Jesus tells us:

"…that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you."

I found the 14th chapter of John to be extremely comforting in the times we are living in at this moment in history. As the disciples did centuries ago we must do also. We must receive the peace that comes from the revelation in God’s Word concerning our future. We must become more heavenly minded so that we might become some earthly good. We must remind ourselves of Who is within us. Jesus told us He will be with us forever. We can never be alone again. Jesus told us He will lead us into all truth. He will be our Teacher. In John 16:13 we are told He will also reveal to us what is to come.

At this crucial time of preparing for what is to come, we need to rely on the prophecies that haven’t been fulfilled, the teachings of Jesus, and the Holy Spirit, our Teacher, as we read the sacred writings. As we seek peace in such an unpeaceful world, it may be found in only one place. The world cannot give what it has never possessed. Jesus was called the Prince of Peace for a reason. His peace He will give you if you will only seek it. We must live by faith; faith in what we cannot see but know in our eternal spirits.

He told us not to let our hearts be troubled and to not be afraid. That indicates it is our choice. We must choose to fill our hearts with His promises to us, and trust and believe Him. That is how we stop our hearts from being troubled, and instead have perfect peace in the storms of life. It is possible; all things are possible in Him. He has provided for our every need till we are with Him.

He tells us not to be afraid. Again we can refuse fear. The antidote for fear is also found in His Word in 1 John 4:18-19:

"There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love. We love because He first loved us."

God’s love for us is the most powerful thing in existence. There is no power of evil greater than the power of God’s love for those who receive His love through our Savior, Jesus Christ, our Lord. He is willing to be Lord of all. There is no one excluded. I know this love. I know what I am talking about. This love heals my body when I am injured, even more miraculous is how He heals the inside wounds no one sees but Him. When you come to Him as a little child, which is always acceptable to Him, He will wrap you in His Presence, and He will speak His Words personally to you to bring you peace in your tribulations. As long as we live in this world we will suffer in many ways, but never alone. He is inside of us forever.

We need not fear dying. Everyone will die on this earth, but for the children of God we anticipate death as our victory, because we will join our Heavenly Father, Jesus, our Lord, and live eternally in perfect love. Let us meditate on the promises of Jesus in John 14:1-3:

"Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also.

Dear friend, let us obey His command, and believe in God and believe in Jesus’ promises. He is faithful and true. Now receive the peace given through our Prince of Peace. It is not as the world gives; it is eternal.

I conclude with the words of Paul to Timothy concerning our future:

For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure has come. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith; in the future there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness which the Lord , the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me, but also to all who have loved His appearing. 2 Timothy 4:6-8

Those who have received His peace will love His appearing.
In His love.
