"For just as the sufferings of Christ are ours in abundance, so also our comfort is abundant through Christ." 2 Corinthians 1:5

The difference in followers of Christ and non believers is that we are never without hope and comfort during life’s struggles and afflictions. In verse eight Paul reveals they were burdened excessively, beyond their strength, so that they despaired even of life. Haven’t we all been there at various times in our lives on this earth?

Perhaps even now you are excessively burdened beyond your strength despairing even of life. Listen to what Paul was previously telling the Corinthians. Our sufferings may be abundant, but comfort will also be ours in abundance through Christ. We are instructed then to comfort one another with the same comfort we have been comforted with.

Doesn’t this remind you of what Jesus said to Simon Peter before being crucified? Luke 22:31-32 says:

"Simon, Simon, behold satan has demanded permission to sift you like wheat; but I have prayed for you, that your faith may not fail; and you, when once you have turned again, strengthen your brothers."

Trials are not to destroy us, but to strengthen us in our relationship with Christ and then with others. However, the only way we triumphat is through Christ Jesus. His death on the cross and resurrection is our covenant promise of power over darkness, sickness, and evil.

Our Source of comfort is the Comforter, the Holy Spirit. He is a promised guide and teacher in scripture. He promises to lead us into all truth which sets us free from what is trying to capture and destroy us. Once again we are reminded it is our daily choices that will cause us to triumphant as we choose Christ as our Comforter. He alone is able.
In His love.

More times than not I find comfort by simply opening my eyes to His goodness I am surrounded by daily where I live! (End of day photos taken from home.)
