This year the race will be 10+ Miles of SingleTrack Trails

Matthews State Park, Galax, VA
Saturday, April 15, 2017, 9:00am

Masterpiece Fitness strives to provide this run with limited resources and works to keep it as simple as possible for the runners and the volunteers who make it possible. Matthews State Forest Trail Run is for the “purist.” These are the runners who run for the experience and their own performance without emphasis on t-shirt or trophies. If you want to go for a time, we will have a starting time for all runners to set their devices. This doesn’t mean the elite runners do not participate. They do! But this race is for all runners who want to enjoy the outdoors and get a physically challenging work out. I encourage everyone to bring a thermos and any munchies desired, and stick around to cheer the last runners in. We will mingle and enjoy each other’s stories of present and past races. We will have a donation bucket for Matthews State Forest and the Galax Mountain Bikers who are responsible for the trail we all enjoy.

All runners are participating at their own risk and responsible for anything that should happen personally. You run at your own risk. The trail is a trail. Falling is always likely. It will not be groomed by any means. There will be a lot of leaves and sticks. Masterpiece Fitness or Matthews State Forest take no responsibility for any participants or their property.

We will have an awards ceremony of recognition when everyone finishes. Runners will be responsible for giving name and age when they cross the finish to the timers. There will be an email sign up list also.

Come out this year for a simplified run, and just enjoy running and the privilege of being with people of common passions…the outdoors and physical challenges!

The Challenge

The run consists of 10+ miles of true mountain bike trails through Matthews State Forest. The trail is incredibly beautiful with thick mountain laurels, mature hardwoods, wild ferns and other forest greenery. You will cross small creeks and jump logs as well as experience extreme up and down hills, switchbacks and single tracks.

Thanks to the to all of the mountain bikers who have created and maintained these excellent mountain bike trails here in Matthews State Forest. Honorable Mentions: Greg Edwards, Robert Patton, Doug Hines, Joe Dickinson, Jimmy Jordon and Ronny Nester to name just a few. Without them we would not have a race at all.
