[category devotionals]"For yet in a very little while, He who is coming will come, and will not delay. But My righteous one shall live by faith; and if he shrinks back, My soul has no pleasure in Him."
Hebrews 10:37-38

Hebrews chapter ten is an astounding chapter as Paul lays out what the law could not do and what Jesus did do. We are told it was impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins. Let’s look at Hebrews 10:5-7:

Therefore, when He comes into the world, He says, "Sacrifice and offering You have not desired, but a body You have prepared for Me; in whole burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin You have taken no pleasure." Then I said, "Behold, I have come. (In the Scroll of the book it is written of Me} To do Your will O God."

After He had said these things, then He said: "I have come to do Your will." Hebrews 10:9

I fall more in love with God the Father and His Son Jesus everytime I read scripture. I love seeing the love of the Father for the Son, and the love of the Son for the Father. But most of all I love seeing the love they have for us who choose to become His followers! This chapter in Hebrews lays out a clear, incredibly beautiful description of what Jesus did for us at the Father’s request. If you want encouragement for the new year, study this chapter.

As a result, I long to do what brings pleasure to the Father and the Son. Don’t we all long to please the Father and Son who first loved us before we loved them. I would like to point out what we know pleases God, and it is His people have to live by faith. Scripture tells us without faith it is impossible to please God!

We know He tells us in scripture if you love Me you will obey Me. He desires obedience over sacrifice. But as we look to Jesus we see His obedience resulted in the greatest sacrifice known to man. We also see He was rewarded more greatly than anyone or anything known to man. He sits at the right hand of the Father on His throne and reigns over all as King of Kings and Lord of Lords throughout eternity. He will never be dethroned! I definitely want to be His bondservant, and hope you choose to also.

These truths we must hold onto. We are promised in a little while He will come and not delay. And we are told we must live by faith and if we shrink back His soul takes no pleasure in us. So now let’s look at verses 23-26:

"Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful; and let us consider how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds, not forsaking our own assembling together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another; and all the more as you see the day drawing near."

May we heed the words spoken, and take time to study Hebrews 10 so you may receive deeper revelation of all the anchoring truths it reveals. May we strive to say with our Savior we have come to do the will of our Father while living out our daily lives. Let us obey the above verses holding fast without wavering in our faith pursuing how to stimulate one another to love and good deeds. Let us allow the scriptures to give us our ambitions for this new year as we all focus on the promise of His return knowing with each passing day it is drawing more near. Come Lord Jesus! Come!
In His love.
