So how do we live out our lives on this earth to the fullest degree?  I do not believe this is possible apart from the “Lifegiver” which is Jesus Christ.  Jesus said in John 10:10 “The thief comes only to steal, kill, and destroy; I came that they might have Life and have it abundantly.  Jesus said in John 14:6, “I am the way, the truth, and the Life, and no one comes to the Father but by Me.”  It is in Christ that I find Life on a daily basis.

Now we need to apply practical application.  We are made up of spirit, body, and soul.  Each one of these components has to be addressed.  The spirit is eternal; therefore our spiritual lives should be our top priority.  When we get our priorities in right alignment we begin to experience Life.  My relationship with Jesus must come first and foremost.  As I stated in an earlier article, my goal for this year is to love Him with all my heart, body, soul, and strength.  Out of this relationship, beginning each day seeking His wisdom, I find the guidance and answers I need for all areas of life.

As a personal trainer and fitness instructor I feel very strongly about taking care of ourselves physically.  However, it grieves me when I see clients investing so much time and effort in the physical component alone.  In 1 Tim. 4:8 we read, “for bodily discipline is only of little profit; but godliness is profitable for all things, since it holds promise for the present life and also for the life to come.”  Again we are talking about prioritizing.  We know taking care of our physical being is vital.  It is what houses the spirit, but seeking godliness through loving God must take priority if we want to experience Life that only comes from the “Lifegiver”.

Overeating and being over weight is stealing our quality of living and claiming an untold numbers of lives. This occurs when we try to fill our voids or get comfort from food.  God created us with a void only He can fill.  If you are struggling with overeating stop before engaging in more than your body requires to be healthy, and ask yourself what is motivating you to do so.  Is it for comfort?  If we are seeking comfort from food, we are seeking the wrong source.  In 2 Cor. 1:3-4 it states “Blessed be the God and Father  of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of  all comfort,  who comforts us in ALL our affliction so that we will be able to comfort those who are in any affliction with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.   We may find temporary comfort from eating, but the end result is obesity, low self esteem, and a much reduced quality of life.  If your eating is out of control ask the Lord to reveal the root of the problem.  Let’s be about finding a cure, rather than treating symptoms with another fad diet.  Jesus said in John 6:35, “I am the Bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me will never thirst.”  Physical food cannot satisfy the hunger placed in all of us by God Himself.  In John 6:33 He said, “For the bread of God is that which comes down out of heaven, and gives Life to the world.  We can have beautiful, fit, bodies, but what does it profit us if there is no eternal Life inside?  Again, Jesus said, “I Am the way, the truth, and the Life.  No man comes to Father but by me. I am the bread of Life.”  John 6:48  May I encourage you to eat more of the bread of Life beginning today!
