"He has given us His very great and precious promises, so that through them you may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires." 2 Peter 1:4

In Peter’s greeting he defines himself as a bond slave and apostle of Christ Jesus. Oswald Chambers describes a bond-servant as one who places himself in a condition of breaking his independence with his own hand, and surrendering to the supremacy of our Lord Jesus. It means breaking the husk of our individual independence of God, and the emancipation of our personality into oneness with Himself, not for our own ideas, but for absolute loyalty to Jesus. There is no possibility of dispute once we are there.

I made the choice in my early twenties to make Jesus not just my Savour, but Lord of all in my life. However, in reality I have to make that same choice every morning as I spend time in His Word and Presence before beginning each day. The Bible is clear about the war that continues daily between our flesh and spirit. Galatians 5:16-17 states:

But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of your flesh. For the flesh sets it desires against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things you please."

Galatians 6:8 says:

"For the one who sows to His own flesh reaps corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit reaps eternal life."

If we take a close look at our verse today we find a simple truth for successfully living by the Spirit and not appeasing our fleshly desires. It is simply gaining a knowledge of the very great and precious promises of God. It says through them we may participate in the divine nature and escape the corruption in the world caused by evil desires.

The previous verse, 2 Peter 1:3 statesI

"Seeing that His divine power has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness, through the true knowledge of HIm who called us by His own glory and excellence."

May I exhort you to apply all diligence in gaining a true knowledge of the great and precious promises of God on a daily basis; preferably before you start each day. It will change your life! By His divine power He has already granted to us everything we need pertaining to life and godliness. It is yours for the taking. Partake!

In His love.
