"I Am the living bread that came down out of heaven; if anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread also which I will give for the life of the world is My flesh." John 6:51

When Jesus shared with His disciples He was the bread of life that came down from heaven and we must eat His body and drink His blood the Jews grumbled at this. Later, we read the disciples also grumbled and said this is a difficult statement: who can listen to it? (John 6:60) Jesus’ response in verse 63 reads:

"It is the Spirit who gives life, the flesh profits nothing; the words I have spoken to you are spirit and are life."?

What are we trying to nourish ourselves with presently? Have we forgotten this truth in the body of Christ today? Are we feasting and being satisfied by the Bread of Life, or are we creating our own bread from idols that never satisfy. They leave us thirsty and hungry for more, or we must create a new idol for ourselves such as socialism,or so called education, but in reality indoctrination, food resulting in gluttony and obesity, or drugs and porn which result in addiction.

John Calvin declared our hearts to be "idol factories." We are constantly busy creating substitutes for the real Bread of Life. But when we allow our hearts to feed upon Jesus’ forever sacrifice we are satisfied from within, and we are no longer hungering and thirsting for the things of this world which supplies corruption and destruction.

Jesus gave His flesh and blood for the life of the whole world. Everyone is included. When we drink His blood and eat His flesh we live eternally the life He intended for all. You will not find this promise anywhere else. The Bible has the promises of God. It is the only book that has the Words of Life. What are you nourishing your heart with this morning?

"Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may know the things freely given to us by God, which things we also speak, not words taught by human wisdom, but in those taught by the Spirit, combining spiritual thoughts with spiritual words. But a natural man does not accept the things of the Spirit of God; for they are foolishness to him and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually appraised." 1 Corinthians 2:12-14

Let us have ears to hear what the Spirit is saying to His church.
In His love.

I ran a new trail, Hoover Mountain Bike Trail, off of New River Trail, half mile past the Allisonia boat ramp. A lot of it is closed to bikers from lack of maintenance, but it doesn’t stop a trail runner. Nice to do something new.
