"By wisdom a house is built, and by understanding it is established; and by knowledge the rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches."
Proverbs 24:3-4

I grew up in a very small house which seemed quiet sufficient having never known anything else. Later in life I lived in large, spacious homes as our family grew to a family of six. Contrary to what we are told by the world, happiness was never in the size of the home.

Proverbs tells us by wisdom a house is built. There is no true wisdom in establishing a home apart from God and His Word. Then we must acquire understanding of that wisdom by the Holy Spirit in order to establish our homes. Gaining a knowledge of God’s love, and then living it out is what we want to fill our rooms with whether dining, or sleeping, or performing the mundane chores of cooking and laundry. Each room must be intentionally filled with precious and pleasant eternal riches achieved by sharing the Words and love of the Giver of Life. If we allow Christ His proper place in every room, no matter how difficult and chaotic circumstances can become, it is possible to maintain peace, and to share unconditional love as we allow Him to rule our hearts and minds.

Scripture tells us our bodies are a temple of the Holy Spirit, or the house of God. (1 Corinthians 6:19) In order for our homes to be built and established as intended we must consider if our own house is in order. This will determine the outcome of the family. The father has the ultimate responsibility, because God established the man head of his home. Wives are to support and submit to that authority. The children are to submit to their parents. If the head establishes God’s Word as the authority in his house the home will be established in wisdom and understanding from the One who created families. Families determine our society!

Unfortunately today the TV and social media is established as the authority in our houses. It dominates our time defining our values and goals. It is the other gods we serve robbing us of the eternal precious and pleasant riches God intended for all leaving misery, emptiness, destruction, and wreckage behind as our heritage.

O that fathers might join Joshua in Joshua 24:15 proclaiming:

"Now therefore, fear the Lord and serve Him in sincerity and truth; and put away the gods which your fathers served beyond the river, and in Egypt, and serve the Lord . If it is disagreeable in your sight to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves today whom you will serve: whether the gods which your fathers served beyond the river, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you are living; but as for me and my house we will serve the Lord."

We must all choose this day who we will allow to establish our hearts and minds in our bodily houses, and who will be allowed to establish our homes and families. May we choose to fill our rooms with eternal, precious and pleasant riches only He can provide through our obedience.
In His love,
