For thus says the high an exalted One Who lives forever, whose name is Holy,
"I dwell on a high and holy place, and also with the contrite and lowly of spirit in order to revive the spirit of the lowly and to revive the heart of the contrite." Isaiah 57:15

I often look up definitions when I desire a deeper understanding of scripture. I wanted to understand what God delights in so much He dwells where He finds it.
According to the Merriam-Webster Dictionary lowly is described as humble in manner or spirit; free from self assertive pride.
Contrite means penitence, contrition, remorse means regret for sin or wrong doing, penitence implies sad and humble realization of regret for one’s misdeeds. Once again I am overwhelmed by the heart of the God I serve. Why does He dwell with the lowly and contrite: " in order to revive them. He longs to forgive and cleanse us from all our failures and sins. He longs to set us free from our sinful nature we were born with that produces death. He came to give us life.

We all want the promises without giving a lot of thought to the conditions laid before us in His Word. Have we forgotten what true repentance is? It is a heart that is broken for sinning against the One we love. Our first grief should be the fact we have broken our Father’s heart, because He loves us. If you have ever been a parent when our children disobey and we see them suffer consequences for their wrong doing our heart breaks not because they broke our rule, but because we love that child, and we gave them rules not to deny them, but to protect them, and to show them the correct steps to take in life to avoid pit falls.

Our Father is telling us through His Words His deep desire to revive the hearts and the spirit of His children who truly are sorry and desire to live and please Him. Just as children fail parents and make mistakes we fail our Heavenly Father. He is the perfect Father with perfect love. All He requires is true repentance, and we can be totally healed and restored in our relationship with Him as though it never happened.

Does your spirit and heart need reviving this morning as mine so often does? Let us pray for a broken and contrite spirit if we lack it. He will help us to enter His throne of mercy and grace to receive the love and forgiveness we all are in great need of, which He is in great unending supply of! Be revived today.
In His love.
