"I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may be with you forever; that is the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it does not see Him or know Him, but you know Him because He abides with you and will be in you."
John 14:16-17

Jesus is getting ready to leave His disciples, and He speaks such comforting words in John 14. He begins the chapter with the promise of heaven for all His true disciples then and at this present time. Let’s look at what He had to say.
John 14:1-3 states:

"Do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Fathers house are many dwelling places; if it were not so, I would have told you; for I go to prepare a place for you. If I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself, that where I am, there you may be also."

Blessed assurance from Jesus Himself that He has prepared a place for each of us who are true followers of Him in Heaven where we will live out eternity. He will be coming again to receive us to Himself. Where He is at this moment is where we are going to be. What blessed hope from our Savior at this moment in time.

Now let’s look at verses 16 and 17. He promised not to leave us as orphans. Therefore He tells us He has asked the Father on our behalf to send us a Helper. He will be with us forever. The Helper will abide inside of us forever! I love that promise and the one that follows, and I pray for truth constantly. The Helper is going to lead us into all truth if we desire it with all our heart. I have found this to be true. Remember, the truth sets us free. The Helper is the Holy Spirit whom the world cannot receive, because you cannot see Him and they cannot know Him. But He tells us we will know Him, because He will abide in us and be with us. Lets look at Jesus’ words in verse 21:

"He who has My commandments and keeps them is the one who loves Me, and He who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and will disclose Myself to him.

One of the greatest joys in life is when we experience Jesus revealing Himself personally to us. It is how we fall in love with Him more deeply, and recognize His great love for us. Now look at verse 26 for another promise concerning the Holy Spirit:

"But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all that I said to you."

Another one of my favorite verses I trust in! Again, God has always been true to His Word. Surely reading these verses will make you turn to John 14 in your Bibles and read the entire chapter. How can you not? There is so much God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Helper, the Holy Spirit, has waiting for you there. The Trinity wants to speak these truths to you personally. Please get alone in His presence today, a day created to rest and honor God, the Sabbath Day. I close with one of the last verses in the chapter, verse 27:

"Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Do not let your heart be troubled, nor let it be fearful."

We can obey this closing verse if we meditate on the comforting truths in the previous verses. It is up to you as it always comes down to individual choices we make for our lives. Please choose to seek the truths found in God’s Word that you might truly be set free from the chains that bind us we cannot see apart from the Helper and His Word.
In His love.

This barn has been an eye catcher since I moved back to this area. It was weathered and stately when I first moved here, and would provoke me to ponder life. I would find myself photographing it every season. It was especially lovely snow covered. I was crushed when I saw it had fallen. But once again it spoke to me. We are all mortal, and only exist on this earth for an appointed time.

Lord, teach us to number our days so that we might walk wisely with eternity more our focus than the temporal things of this world.
