Mark 10:8-9
“And the two shall become one flesh, so they are no longer two, but one flesh. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate.”
Unfortunately the laws of man and of God are very different. We know God’s law is superior to man’s. Something so sacred as marriage is easily dissolved by the desire of one partner. Mutual consent is only necessary for marriage. If one decides they would like a new mate, they simply file for divorce, and leave behind a family of helpless victims. Our laws permit “no fault” divorces. God’s law doesn’t. Jesus told us Moses permitted divorce because of a hardened heart. Jesus only made allowance for divorce if sexual immorality had been committed. If there is remarriage outside of God’s law by the one who chose divorce, it causes both to commit adultery according to God’s Word. God’s Word has not been updated for today’s narcissistic society. God is the same yesterday, today, and forever.
How different our society would be if we had not veered from God’s law. Weddings are reduced to a ceremony, rather than a covenant to God and each other. Devastation to the family is the result. Divorce is the gift that keeps on giving throughout generations. God help us, and have mercy, as we try to stop this horrible epidemic in our society. What God has joined together, let no man separate.
