" Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you have been bought with a price, therefore glorify God with your body."
1 Corinthians 6:19-20
Are we truly aware when we choose to become followers of Christ our bodies become a temple for the Holy Spirit to dwell within? What an incredible gift to actually have the Holy Spirit of the living God dwelling within us! When we mature through the knowledge of the Word of God as the Holy Spirit teaches us, we must not just have Jesus as Savior, but He must become Lord of all including our physical bodies. We are no longer our own; we have been bought with a price. And what a price was paid by Jesus to purchase us back for the Father! We now are given the choice to be free from our sin nature in order to glorify God with our bodies within and without.
Our bodies are truly the masterpiece of God’s creation. Scripture tells us our bodies were not created for immorality, but to be sanctified, and bring glory to God. If you read these verses in context Paul is addressing sexual sin. He points out all other sins are committed outside the body, but the sexually immoral man or woman sins against their own body within.Scripture teaches sexual intercourse enables a man and wife to become one not just physically but spiritually as well. The two become one flesh.
God is the creator of sex. It was created to be a sacred act joining man and wife to become one flesh until death parts them. There is nothing more beautiful in life than to experience this, or to observe it lived out as God intended. His ways are so much higher than our ways.
Let us surrender our bodies to the Holy Spirit living inside us, and keep our temples undefiled that we might glorify God with our bodies as we were created to do. Perhaps you are defiled by wrong decisions of the past, or decisions of the present. You can be totally cleansed, forgiven and restored by the blood of Jesus. Go to Him, and allow Him to restore your purity– man or woman. After all, that is why He sent us a Savior! He paid for your sins and mine. It is freely given to all for the asking. You were formed in the womb by His hands. You are His masterpiece. Your body belongs to Him. You were created to bring glory to the One so deserving. All things are possible through His love.
