"The God who made the world and all things in it, since HE is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands; nor is he served by human hands, as though He needed anything, since He Himself gives life to all people life and breathe and all things." Acts 17:24-25

It seems in this day and time we are willing to magnify any kind of idol rather than the one true God and His Word. As Paul gave this sermon in Acts 17:22-32 to the city of Athens on Mars Hill, he and his audience were looking down upon a city filled with idols they worshipped. Because of this, Paul was provoked by the Holy Spirit to preach this incredible sermon. He spoke the truth about the one true God that they might come from darkness into the Light knowing how worthless all those idols were as they are today. He magnified the one true God and His greatness and goodness.

Our nation is much like Athens. We tend to magnify Covid-19 over God Almighty. We rely on the very limited knowledge and ability of man to solve our issues rather than the one true God. My mission today is to try to turn your focus on God Himself and His goodness and faithfulness. Come, let us magnify the Lord together by examining His Words and not man’s.

In verses 24-25 we see He is the Creator of the world and all things in it. He is Lord of heaven and earth. He gives life to all people and breath to all things. He can’t be stuffed in temples made by man, nor does He need our works. He is God. He is omnipresent, transcendent. He is the Creator, not creation. He is sovereign and in control, and yet, He is close and personal to each one of us.

"From one man He made every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth having determined their appointed time, and the boundaries of their habitation, that they would seek God, if perhaps they might grope for Him and find Him, though He is not far from each one of us; for in Him we live and move and exist, as even some of your own poets have said ‘For we also are His children.’" Acts 17:26-28

Please go on and read 29-34. As you slow down and place your focus on God’s Word and Himself choose this day to magnify the only one true God who is able! What or who can possibly compare with our God? Who has ever loved you as our God? He did all this so we might love and worship Him, and that He might care for His children. We are His offspring through Jesus. There is no greater love story than the one between God the Creator and His creation. For "heaven’s sake" take your eyes off this world and the things in it, and focus on the one, eternal, true God. It is the only way to secure the peace and love we are so desperate for. Only by soaking in His perfect love can you be relieved of your great fear of the future. In Him we live and move and have our being. He is always waiting for you with outstretched arms for His lovingkindness is everlasting. (Psalms 136)
In His love.

I am so very grateful to the residence on Pipers Gap road who displays not one, but two beautiful nativities this time of year. How refreshing it is to see the true meaning of Christmas magnified! May we all follow suit!
